About the Event
Banding Together to End Domestic Violence is a battle of the bands fundraiser, held in both San Francisco and LA, to support the work of the Family Violence Appellate Project.
The bands are made up of lawyers and professionals from local corporations. It costs $1 to cast 1 vote and the band that raises the most money wins.
100% of the proceeds from both events will go to helping FVAP take more cases on behalf of survivors of domestic violence in continued danger.
These bands have eveything to play for ... pride, honor, respect, and FVAP.
FVAP is the first and only nonprofit organization in California that provides appellate representation to survivors of domestic violence. We work to achieve our mission by engaging in the following five program areas
Appellate Courts Program: We partner with pro bono attorneys at both law firms and large corporations across the state to provide the highest quality appellate representation to our clients. Our focus is on cases that (1) provide an opportunity to create landscape-changing precedent case law in the state; and (2) where there is substantial risk of ongoing abuse, following the trial court decision, to the survivor and/or their children
Training Program: Unfortunately, many of the case referrals FVAP has received are not in a position to be appealed due to procedural or evidentiary problems at the trial court level. To address this problem, FVAP has developed a training curriculum for trial attorneys on how to lay a record for appeal. Since September 2012, FVAP has reached 59 agencies throughout the state with its trainings
Technical Assistance Program: FVAP offers free technical assistance to domestic violence trial attorneys to help them prepare cases in the trial courts with a possible appeal in mind
Self-Represented Litigant Program: In some California counties, up to 95% of people with domestic violence cases in court do not have a lawyer. FVAP supports these self-represented litigants by accepting self-referrals for appellate representation and by providing self-help information to pro per litigants representing themselves in appeals.
Next Generation Program: FVAP works with law students each semester and summer to cultivate the next generation of domestic violence advocates
